Morrison Foerster was once again recognized as one of the Most Innovative Law Firms in North America in the Financial Times 2023 North America Innovative Lawyers report. These awards acknowledge the most innovative lawyers, private practices, and in-house legal departments in the region. In addition to being recognized on the FT law firm index, MoFo received third place in the scoring for “Innovation,” which is based on the groundbreaking work handled by our U.S. lawyers. The firm also achieved second place in the scoring for “People,” which is based on gender representation, diversity, and inclusion, as well as investment in skills for both lawyers and business professionals.
Morrison Foerster was also recognized in the following four categories:
Innovative Lawyers in Cyber Security & Data Protection: Morrison Foerster was named as a “Standout” firm, receiving the second-highest score, for its role negotiating the return of nearly $200 million in digital assets for Euler, three weeks after these assets were stolen, completing one of the largest recoveries in decentralized finance history. Additionally, MoFo partner Wil Frentzen was named as a “Commended” individual.
Innovative Lawyers in Healthcare & Life Sciences: Morrison Foerster was named as a “Highly Commended” firm for Healthcare and Life Sciences for its post-Dobbs work, including its involvement in precedent-setting reproductive rights cases and its role in forming the Abortion Defense Network. Across MoFo, lawyers have dedicated 3,000 hours to post-Dobbs advocacy.
Innovative Lawyers in Technology: Morrison Foerster was named as a “Standout” firm for Technology, receiving the second-highest score, for its work advising OpenAI. MoFo’s multidisciplinary team advised OpenAI in the development and launch of ChatGPT and DALL-E 2 and the negotiation of enterprise agreements with customers of its API. Additionally, MoFo’s Intellectual Property Litigation team is helping to defend OpenAI in its landmark copyright litigations.
Change Maker: Morrison Foerster’s Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer, Natalie Kernisant, has been recognized as one of seven individual “Change Makers” in the legal industry for her strategic leadership of the firm’s efforts to interrupt unconscious bias and advance diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
Financial Times 2023 North America Innovative Lawyers is a ranking, report, and awards scheme for lawyers based in the region, produced by the Financial Times and its research partner, RSGI, based on a unique methodology. In 2023, the Financial Times received more than 300 submissions from 100 different companies. RSGI researchers assessed and researched them through interviews with clients, senior lawyers, executives, and experts. Morrison Foerster is among a small group of firms that received four or more finalist recognitions. Honorees were also recognized at an awards ceremony on December 4, 2023.
