This seminar will provide a comprehensive overview of the copyright implications of generative AI under EU and UK law, describing the current challenges for all stakeholders, from rights holders of the content used as training data, to developers and providers of AI applications and their users. We will discuss what is, and what may not be, allowed under the text-and-data mining exceptions of the 2019 EU Copyright Directive, the nature of the transparency obligation for copyrighted training data of the forthcoming AI Act, and what legal opportunities and risks lurk in "creative" AI output.
