MoFo partner Susan Mac Cormac joined theCUBE host John Furrier at the Forward Global Summit 2025 to discuss an effective solution that can help organizations deal with capital-related problems.
She shared insights on how structures within capital markets can address pressing global issues, such as climate change, inequality and education.
“If you look at AI companies, all of them are using new corporate forms and scaffolding. These two worlds are intersecting. You have different sets of solutions depending on where you are, how much capital you need and how mature you are as an organization. That’s because what you can do operationally can be limited by the people if you're a small business owner. A complicated perpetual purpose trust may not be right for you,” Mac Cormac shared.
“Use a public benefit corporation where you have dual fiduciary duties and more control on setting a mission or a public benefit that is equal to driving shareholder value. You've got to balance both of those, board and management. You have a class of stock that you need to make sure that doesn't change. You have more control over your destiny,” she added.
“That forum, there are 22 publicly traded PBCs. It can act as a sweet pill. If you don't want your company to be sold to someone who won’t stay true to the public benefit of your mission, you can actually say, ‘No,’” she concluded.
