Morrison Foerster Receives a Law360 Practice Group of the Year Award for Compliance

Law360 has recognized MoFo’s global Compliance Group as a 2024 Practice Group of the Year, highlighting the team’s deep experience guiding clients through complex and high-stakes compliance challenges. This is the second time in three years that MoFo has received the recognition as Practice Group of the Year for Compliance.

Among our standout engagements, MoFo lawyers are currently serving as the board-appointed Independent Monitor for the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation to assess the effectiveness of its remediation of workplace misconduct issues. This monitorship is quite extensive as the remediation includes more than 70 action items and is subject to board oversight, input from a number of internal and external stakeholders, and scrutiny by the Senate Banking Committee and the media. MoFo also worked closely with the in-house legal team for Recology on all aspects of its efforts to enhance its compliance program as soon as the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of California and the City Attorney for San Francisco opened a wide-ranging investigation involving the director of the San Francisco Public Works Department. The team successfully negotiated a deferred prosecution agreement to resolve the investigation. Due in large part to the strength of the compliance program, Recology successfully completed its three-year deferred prosecution term, and the case against Recology has been dismissed. Our work for large financial institutions included serving for the fourth year in a row as Independent Third-Party Reviewer of the Office of Foreign Assets Control compliance program for one of the world’s largest banks, as mandated by a U.S. federal regulator.
