Deon Fang Named an Outstanding Future Leaders Role Model for 2024
INvolve’s Outstanding Role Model Lists supported by YouTube have recognized London Litigation associate Deon Fang as an Outstanding Future Leaders Role Model for 2024. The Lists showcase inspirational LGBTQ+ employees who represent “the most impactful and innovative work being done for inclusion of LGBTQ+ employees across the globe and provide a benchmark from which global progress can be achieved.”
Deon uses strategic litigation to advance LGBTQ+ rights on a pro bono basis. They worked on UK Supreme Court case R (Elan-Cane) v SSHD, which established the fundamental right to respect for non-binary identities, a landmark for Trans+ human rights. They are also working on pro bono litigation relating to ending conversion therapy, promoting equal rights for non-binary people, and preventing transphobic malicious communications. Further, they provide pro bono advice to LGBTQ+ charities and community organisations to advance LGBTQ+ rights in the UK and globally, particularly in jurisdictions introducing new anti-LGBTQ+ laws.
Deon also advocates for LGBTQ+ rights and inclusion with MoFo Proud, our LGBTQ+ Affinity Network. They advocate for less represented LGBTQ+ groups with an emphasis on allyship and intersectional solidarity.
MoFo has a proud record of support for our LGBTQ+ communities. In 2001, we made history by becoming one of the first major law firms to elect an openly gay man to serve as chair. Today, 21 of our board and committee seats are held by LGBTQ+ attorneys. MoFo has contributed countless hours of pro bono work representing individuals and families facing discrimination and violence based on their sexual orientation. We have also built longstanding partnerships with organizations devoted to building a more diverse legal community, including the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity, Out Leadership, and OutNEXT.
