Carrie H. Cohen spoke to Gothamist about New York City Mayor Eric Adams' ongoing federal corruption case and bribery charges, sharing insights from her case against former New York state Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver.
The bribery charges against Mayor Adams aren't traditional instances of bribery, which may help his case. Carrie said that in prior bribery cases, the U.S. Supreme Court has demonstrated “a reluctance to interpret federal bribery statutes broadly to include conduct beyond a straight forward cash in hand to take a particular official act.”
