Marcia Ellis Recognized as a Woman of Influence 2024 by Private Equity International
Private Equity International (PEI) has named Marcia Ellis, partner and global co-chair of MoFo’s Private Equity practice, among its 2024 Women of Influence in Private Markets: Private Equity. Each year, the PEI Group celebrates 42 trailblazing women working across private markets globally who have made a substantial impact through innovative solutions and strategies. Only seven women are selected for each of the categories: infrastructure, private equity, private debt, real estate, venture capital and cross asset class.
Having advised on deals with a total aggregate value around US$250 billion in the last three years alone, Marcia engages in all types of private equity related investments, from minority investments to leveraged buyouts and take-privates. Recognized as a Band 1 lawyer from 2020–2024 in China Private Equity: Buyouts & Venture Capital by Chambers & Partners, Marcia has been a key player in numerous landmark PE/M&A transactions in the region, such as recently advising on Ascendent’s US$1.66 billion take-private of NASDAQ-listed Chinese company Hollysys Automation Technologies, the successful completion of which underscores MoFo’s deep expertise in advising clients on complex transactions involving Chinese companies listed in the U.S.
Apart from being global co-chair of the PE Group, Marcia is a member of MoFo’s global board of directors and its finance committee – leadership positions that enable her to ensure the hiring and promotion of women are constant strategic priorities. Marcia initiated and leads MoFo Hong Kong’s Diversity Internship Program, designed for Hong Kong ethnic minority law students. All of these accomplishments contributed to the firm’s recognition as the Best Company Championing Women at the 20th AmCham HK Women of Influence Awards in 2024.
Externally, Marcia was elected as the co-chair of AmCham Hong Kong’s Women of Influence (WOI) Committee from May 2022 through April 2024. In this role, Marcia spearheaded the launch of WOI’s first women undergrad mentorship program. Marcia and her team have also spent significant time on pro bono matters, dedicating 800+ hours assisting the Justice Centre Hong Kong in compiling a database that summarizes and analyzes case law relating to immigration detention in Hong Kong.
