Daily Journal Names Alexandra Preece Barlow as a Top 40 Under 40 Lawyer
The Daily Journal has named San Diego partner Alexandra Preece Barlow on its list of 2024 Top 40 Under 40 Lawyers. The annual list honors young professionals who are making a mark on the legal industry in California.
As a partner in the Litigation Department, Alexandra’s practice focuses on the most challenging product liability matters involving medical devices, pharmaceuticals, consumer products, automobiles, and AI. Her litigation knowledge, skill in managing many cases simultaneously, and ability to act quickly and efficiently benefit her clients time and again.
Alexandra excels in high-stakes, fast-paced litigation, often handling matters that involve coordinated proceedings and companion class actions. For example, Alexandra was a crucial part of the team that led a network of fertility clinics through a crisis and subsequent litigation when a cryostorage tank in the network failed, potentially affecting thousands of eggs and embryos. Alexandra played an integral role in the federal class action, state court coordination, and mass arbitration involving over 200 households. She navigated a complex legal landscape with multiple defendants, myriad regulatory implications, multiple insurers, and questions around statutory and contractual limitations of liability to help the team negotiate a favorable settlement for the client after 18 months of mediation. The company’s motion for good-faith settlement determination was granted and affirmed on appeal, and the parties dismissed the California Supreme Court petition in October 2023.
Alexandra has also developed a robust pro bono practice, which includes filing amicus briefs on behalf of the Society for Maternal Fetal Medicine in matters on appeal before the Sixth and Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals. In addition to her work for firm clients, Alexandra is an active member of Morrison Foerster’s Women’s Strategy Committee (WSC) and chair of the WSC Work Life Taskforce. She is also highly active in the San Diego legal community. She served as the sponsorship chair for the San Diego Association of Business Trial Lawyers, was a member of the Steering Committee for the USD School of Law Class Action Law Forum, and mentors law students at the USD School of Law.
