Brian Michael, an Investigations + White Collar partner in Los Angeles, spoke to The New Yorker about his clients, JJMT Capital and its managing members, who were college classmates and victims of Zach Horwitz, the perpetrator of Hollywood’s largest-ever Ponzi scheme. After being hired by JJMT to investigate Horwitz, Brian and his clients referred the matter to the FBI and DOJ and provided critical assistance, resulting in Horwitz’s swift conviction and sentence to 20 years in federal prison for defrauding hundreds of people of more than $500 million.
Brian, who also successfully represented his clients in related SEC and civil matters, said, “It’s inconceivable that they would’ve questioned a fraud that was rooted in a friendship long before Zach went to Hollywood, that they allowed their own families to participate in.”
