The National LGBTQ+ Bar Association has recognized Gerardo Gomez Galvis and Joyce Liou in its annual 40 Best LGBTQ+ Lawyers Under 40 awards among a list of prominent defense lawyers, government officials, corporate executives, and non-profit attorneys. Each year, the 40 Best LGBTQ+ Lawyers Under 40 awards recognize LGBTQ+ legal professionals under the age of 40 who have distinguished themselves in their field and have demonstrated a profound commitment to LGBTQ+ equality.
Gerardo Gomez Galvis is of counsel in the firm’s New York office, who is a member of the Securities Litigation, Enforcement, White Collar Defense Groups. His practice is focused on conducting internal and government-facing investigations, global compliance exercises, and related civil litigation, particularly in matters involving Latin America. Gerardo is also an active champion for diversity and inclusion. He is member of the firm’s LGBTQ+ affinity group, MoFo Proud, and its subgroup, New York LGBTQ+, and is also heavily involved in Morrison Foerster’s Latin America Desk. He plays an active role in the firm’s participation in the Lavender Law Conference & Career Fair. Gerardo also maintains an active pro bono practice focused on LGBTQ+ issues. His cases have focused on representing political refugees seeking asylum in the United States because of their LGBTQ+ status, and also in addition to assisting transgender individuals in petitions for name changes.
Joyce Liou leads the firm’s Trademark Group and is a partner in the Intellectual Property Group. She maintains a broad intellectual property practice with an emphasis on trademark counseling and IP litigation for a diverse roster of clients. Joyce is dedicated to effecting positive change at the firm and beyond to ensure fair representation for women and LGBTQ+ attorneys. As the partner liaison for the firm’s LGBTQ+ affinity group in the San Francisco Bay Area, Joyce is actively involved in attorney professional development and networking events, as well as community initiatives such as clinics that help individuals seeking asylum in the U.S. on the basis of their sexual orientation or gender identity. Outside MoFo, Joyce has served on the Development Committee of the National Center of Lesbian Rights, which advances LGBTQ+ equality through impact litigation, public policy, and public education.
