Brandon Van Grack spoke to The Hill regarding potential updates from the U.S. Department of Justice to the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA), which was passed in 1938 and imposed registration and reporting requirements for individuals and entities seeking to sway U.S. policy or the public on matters of foreign interests.
“Considering that the foundation of [FARA] is transparency, disclosure, awareness, the statute has all manner of references and expectations that aren’t aligned with the 21st century and social media,” Brandon stated.
