MoFo's Capital Markets Practice Named Capital Markets Group of the Year 2023 by Law360

Law360 has selected Morrison Foerster’s Capital Markets practice as a 2023 Capital Markets Group of the Year, highlighting the team’s work in helping clients raise capital. This recognition honors the law firms behind major deals that resonated throughout the legal industry in the past year.

MoFo’s Capital Markets practice was recognized in particular for its extensive work and global collaboration behind U.K. chip designer Arm Ltd.'s $5.22 billion U.S. initial public offering (IPO). With capital markets attorneys stretching from the U.S. to Japan, the firm tapped into the expertise of its lawyers across jurisdictions to guide Arm's historic IPO across the finish line.

Justin Salon, global chair of the Capital Markets practice, said, “We truly followed the sun. There was no time throughout the course of any day or night, depending on what time zone you're in, where we didn't have coverage.”

Arm’s U.S. IPO was pivotal given the semiconductor giant’s global reach, with large operations in China and lead investors in Japan. Partner Andy Campbell noted how the deal highlighted MoFo’s strength across the globe, adding, “It was a complicated deal involving multiple jurisdictions. We were able to utilize the expertise of different groups across Tokyo, London and the whole U.S.”

Notably, the Arm deal took place during a turbulent time for the IPO market. “The most rewarding thing is that the deal was able to get done in a choppy market, and it was successful,” said partner John Hensley.
