Edward Imperatore spoke with The Wall Street Journal about recent insider trading cases involving alleged misappropriation of inside information by romantic partners in a remote work environment.
Edward stated, “During Covid, there was an uptick in brazen conduct. In a work-from-home environment, people acted with more impunity.”
He also discussed the challenges faced by the defense at trial when the girlfriend testifies against her boyfriend, the trial defendant, who allegedly stole inside information from her. “To a juror, this is the bad boyfriend,” said Edward. “He’s acting badly in a relationship in a way that goes beyond the four corners of insider trading.”
