The latest Anti-Corruption Report featured James Koukios’ insights on the new Foreign Extortion Prevention Act (FEPA) and the changes it could spur among companies and prosecutors.
“The FEPA was primarily motivated by the business community,” James stated, noting that the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) enactment in 1977 deliberately left foreign officials out of its scope “Businesses subject to the FCPA have complained that, as a result of this disparity, they alone bear the burden of the fight against foreign bribery and that not enough has been done to reduce the demand for bribery.”
