Oliver s’Jacob and Luisa Coxon recently spoke with The Lawyer, a UK legal sector publication, about a MoFo pro bono project. The firm is working in collaboration with The Nature Conservancy and the Wendling Beck Environment Project on a habitat creation, nature restoration, and regenerative farming project, spanning almost 2,000 acres of farmland. MoFo’s role involves the London Real Estate team working with landowners to understand the UK’s biodiversity net gain obligations, a new conservation concept that aims to enhance and improve biodiversity within ecosystems.
As Oliver explains, “Biodiversity net gain is going to affect the entire construction and development industry in this country.”
“Our involvement is to really help these landowners establish a joint venture and tease out all of the issues in order to have something that is legally, financially and environmentally resilient, so that it could serve as a model and be rolled out to other projects looking to get involved in these nature-based solutions.”
