Daily Journal Names James Sigel as a Top 40 under 40 Lawyer
Daily Journal has named San Francisco partner James Sigel to its list of 2023 Top 40 Under 40 lawyers. The annual list honors young professionals who are making a mark on the legal industry in California.
James is a partner in Morrison Foerster’s Appellate and Supreme Court practice. James briefs and argues complex appeals for clients nationwide. He has particular experience in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and in the California state appellate courts, in which he has already argued more than twenty times. James has also briefed dozens of appeals in federal and state appellate courts throughout the country, including the U.S. Supreme Court, the First, Second, Fourth, Seventh, Ninth, and D.C. Circuits. James recently briefed and argued three recent precedent-setting appeals: leading preemption and trademark cases in the Ninth Circuit (Pardini v. Unilever United States and AK Futures LLC v. Boyd Street Distro), and a California Court of Appeal decision addressing the constitutional right to a jury in California Labor Code Private Attorney General Act cases (LaFace v. Ralphs Grocery).
James is a Ninth Circuit Appellate Lawyer Representative, he is a member of the California Academy of Appellate Lawyers, he serves on the Advisory Council of the Ninth Judicial Circuit Historical Society, and he the lead editor of Morrison Foerster’s Left Coast Appeals blog. He also maintains an active pro bono practice, having briefed and argued appeals involving constitutional, criminal, and immigration issues.
