Laura Steen and Olly Spratt Shortlisted for the 2023 British Legal Awards
Laura Steen and Olly Spratt have been named as finalists in the upcoming 2023 British Legal Awards. The awards, now in their 14th year and hosted by Law.com International, showcase the best of the best within the UK’s legal community. Laura Steen was named a finalist in the Rising Star category, which recognizes exceptional lawyers with under 10 years PQE, while Olly Spratt was shortlisted in the Unsung Hero category, which highlights legal professionals who have gone unnoticed for, or were instrumental behind the scenes in, particularly important work.
Laura Steen, of counsel in Morrison Foerster’s London Litigation Group, advises on general commercial litigation and dispute resolution. She represents individuals and companies in a wide range of matters, including international and cross-border commercial contract disputes, trust disputes, and white-collar crime. Laura has served on various MoFo London office committees, including the Diversity, Charity, Mental Health, and Social Committees, is heavily involved in MoFo’s Affinity Group programme, and is currently a co-chair of the MoFo Women group in London. Laura also served as the associate representative for the entire MoFo London associate community during the pandemic’s most challenging period of remote work. Additionally, Laura is one of MoFo London’s pro bono champions, assisting with various projects, including advising Z2K, a London-wide charity working to combat poverty; providing free family legal advice to women who are in prison or who have left prison through Not Beyond Redemption; and presenting to students about the legal definition of consent for the Schools Consent Project. Laura also coordinates many of MoFo’s charitable initiatives and also co-founded the Women in Compliance and Investigations networking group.
Olly Spratt, of counsel in Morrison Foerster’s London Employment team, advises global clients on the full spectrum of contentious and non-contentious law issues that arise throughout the employment lifecycle across a range of industries. Olly plays an influential role in London’s Healthy MoFo committee, a group that promotes good mental and physical health, and has worked to organize and host numerous discussions about mental health. In 2023, he launched the London Office MoForest Challenge through Healthy MoFo, where every recorded hour/mile of physical activity completed during March and April 2023 resulted in a tree being planted. Olly is a passionate mentor and acts as co-chair of MoFo Navigate, the London office’s mentoring scheme. He is also a committee member of MoForOthers, the firm’s charitable giving committee and regularly promotes fundraising opportunities for MoFo’s various charitable partners and causes. Additionally, Olly dedicates significant time to providing pro bono employment advice to charities and individuals, including advising a former employee in a 2022 race brought before an employment tribunal. He is also a co-office coordinator for MoFo’s partnership with Z2K.
Winners will be recognized at an awards ceremony taking place in London on November 29, 2023. More information about the British Legal Awards 2023 is available on the company’s website.
