Morrison Foerster Supports Justice Centre Hong Kong in Launching Immigration Detention Caselaw Database
A team of Morrison Foerster lawyers has dedicated more than 600 hours to assist Justice Centre Hong Kong in compiling a database that summarizes and analyzes case law relating to immigration detention in Hong Kong.
At completion, the project will become an important resource for Justice Centre and other practitioners who advise and represent torture survivors and refugees seeking legal remedies to their detention. The team is also helping to expand the database to include habeas corpus cases brought by detained immigrants. The project has lasted for one year and will conclude with an informational session on detention case law that MoFo and Justice Centre will jointly present to stakeholders.
Through this initiative, Morrison Foerster lawyers have developed an updated and comprehensive database on case law relating to detention issues that can be accessed by Justice Centre’s legal and community partners. This, in turn, will improve the ability of Justice Centre and its partners to deliver effective legal remedies for former and current detainees and will inform future advocacy and litigation work.
The project is led by Global Co-chair of our Private Equity Practice Marcia Ellis and associate Sarah Luo and supported by associates including Ferdinand Loo, Ziqi Qi, Julia Lee, Katrina Tsoi, Yilong Luo, Letian Ge, and Grace Fung, as well as trainee solicitors Yiman Zhang, Laura Sun, Chloe Chen, Stephanie So, Patricia Lu, Cori Ling, Winnie Lam, and Cyrus Ye.
