Following the decision of Ireland’s Data Protection Commission to fine Meta €1.2 billion and order the company to suspend transfers of personal data between the EU and U.S., Alex van der Wolk spoke to Law360 about the impact of the decision for companies that rely on transatlantic data transfers, as they await the finalization of the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework.
“It will put pressure on companies to think long and hard about their transfers to the U.S., suffice to say, it's going to make data transfers harder and not easier,” Alex commented.
“GDPR enforcement is increasing, and the fines are increasing, and it's likely that we're going to see that trend continue,” he added.
