During the month of May, we celebrate Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month and honor the many contributions AAPI individuals and communities have made throughout history. The theme this year is Advancing Leaders Through Opportunity. By providing advancement opportunities to the unrepresented, we can lower barriers to professional progression and create a more equitable world.
In recognition of AAPI Heritage Month, we honor two longstanding leaders at MoFo, Haima Marlier and Julie Park. Haima is a partner in our New York office and co-chair of the Securities Litigation, Enforcement, and White Collar Defense Group. Julie is office managing partner of our San Diego office, a member of the Products Life Cycle and Class Actions + Mass Torts Practice Groups, and an AAPI Affinity Network Liaison.
On Wednesday, May 10, 2023, the AAPI Affinity Network, in collaboration with the D+I Team welcomes Helen Wan, speaker, lawyer, and author of the critically acclaimed, bestselling novel The Partner Track, which was adapted into a Netflix series. Helen writes and speaks most frequently about the ways that race, gender, privilege, socioeconomic class, family, and culture impact ambition, and our pursuit of happiness. In honor of International AAPI Heritage Month, The Morrison & Foerster Foundation is donating $20,000 to several nonprofit organizations serving the AAPI community, including Asian Americans Advancing Justice | AAJC, an organization working to advance civil and human rights for Asian Americans; Asian Mental Health Collective, making mental healthcare easily available, approachable, and accessible to Asian communities worldwide; and Stop AAPI Hate, a reporting center, which tracks incidents of hate and discrimination against AAPI individuals in the United States. The organization was formed in 2020 in response to racist attacks on the Asian community as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. To effectively address anti-Asian racism, Stop AAPI Hate’s approach recognizes that we must work to end all forms of structural racism leveled at Black, Indigenous, and other communities of color.
Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month offers all individuals at the firm the continued opportunity to recognize and honor the depth and richness of that which makes MoFo truly unique: our people.
