Brandon Van Grack named to Foreign Investment Watch’s Top Advisor list for 2023
Brandon L. Van Grack, co-chair of Morrison Foerster’s National Security and Crisis Management groups, has been named a “Top Advisor” by Foreign Investment Watch. The Top Advisor list recognizes the top lawyers who advise on national security reviews of foreign investments in the United States and abroad. The editorial rankings were based on criteria that included experience, reputation, clients served, first‑person interviews, references, reader recommendations, and articles published.
Brandon’s arrival to Morrison Foerster follows more than a decade of service at the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) where he held multiple senior national security positions. During his tenure, he helped identify and manage the U.S. government’s tools to address perceived national security threats in China and Russia, oversaw every criminal investigation involving sanctions and export controls, and served as chief of DOJ’s Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) Unit. Brandon also handled the DOJ’s review of transactions before CFIUS and Team Telecom across multiple administrations.
Brandon is cited in Foreign Investment Watch for his involvement in “some of the nation’s most high-profile national security matters,” including serving as lead prosecutor for Special Counsel Robert S. Mueller III’s investigation of the Russian government’s efforts to interfere in the 2016 presidential election and leading the DOJ’s response to the Obama Administration’s rollback of sanctions targeting Iran. Additionally, Brandon is praised for the “myriad of insights” he has provided to the Foreign Investment Watch Editorial team.
As part of the honor, Brandon was featured in a special report prepared by Foreign Investment Watch.
