MoFo partners Thomas Chou and Lip Kian Ang were quoted in a recent article, “Where Can Singapore Take the Lead in Alternative Proteins?” published by The Business Times.
The article discusses Singapore’s current role and outlook as a preeminent hub in the development and commercialization of alternative proteins.
Lip Kian observes that there is substantial support as the sector dovetails with Singapore’s goal of producing 30 percent of its food locally by 2030. He further adds that government funding is easy to access via the Singapore Food Story R&D Programme and the National Research Foundation.
In terms of scaling up production, Thomas expects to see an increased regional use of contract manufacturers for all three alternative protein categories (i.e., plant-based, fermentation, and cultivated). High-quality contract manufacturers with a reputation for safety and consumer insights can help companies commercialize successfully.
