Brian Kidd spoke to CNN about Attorney General Merrick Garland naming Jack Smith, a long-time prosecutor who has overseen a variety of high-profile cases, as special counsel to oversee the criminal investigations into the retention of classified documents at former President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort and parts of the January 6 insurrection.
Brian, who was hired by Smith at the Justice Department’s Public Integrity Section, recalled how his boss walked him through every step of a complicated racketeering case against corrupt police officers.
“He was not going to tolerate a politically motivated prosecution,” Brian said. “And he has an incredible ability to motivate the people working with him and under him. He’s incredibly supportive of his team.”
