Brussels Senior Of Counsel Lokke Moerel has been shortlisted for the W@Privacy Awards 2022 for Best Contribution to the Community. Lokke was recognized for her 2022 publication “What happened to the risk-based approach to data transfers?” In an article for the Future of Privacy Forum, Lokke discusses the origins of the risk-based approach in the GDPR, how it evolved during the EU’s legislative process, and why it should also apply to the data transfer obligations of the GDPR.
Among the world’s best-known privacy & cyber advisers, Lokke Moerel is regularly called upon by some of the world’s most complex multinational organizations to confront their global privacy and ethical challenges when implementing new technologies and digital business models and to assist them with their global cyber security incident response and regulatory investigations. Lokke is also a professor of Global ICT law at Tilburg University (the Netherlands), where she teaches global data protection and new technologies.
The W@Privacy Awards recognize notable women in privacy who are leading by example and making an impact in their community. The honorees will be announced at the award ceremony on November 14, 2022, at the Future of Privacy Forum office in Brussels.
