Rising Star: MoFo’s Ann Lilienthal

Ann Lilienthal was profiled as one of Law360’s Rising Stars for 2022, discussing her proudest moment as an attorney, some of the biggest cases she's been a part of, and what motivates her in her agency finance practice.

Ann said she's motivated in her practice because she wants to see how development is affected by all of the projects she's involved in. The deals that her practice focuses on are ones that private sector investors won't cover, she noted, making her clients effectively the lender of last resort most of the time. But the commonality she finds in working with sponsors and lenders towards these deals are some of her favorite aspects of project finance.

"If our clients aren't financing these projects, they're just not going to get done, and they've been selected for financing because of some significant developmental impact that's been identified," Ann said. "One of the things that I really like about the work compared to when I was in a tax controversy position...[is that] in this space, even when we're across from borrowers and sponsors, I think there really is a common goal of seeing this project get built or the development outcomes that have been identified be achieved."
