The Deal Names Jennifer Marines Top Women in Dealmaking
New York Partner Jennifer Marines has been named to the list of Top Women in Dealmaking by The Deal. The Deal honors exemplary women in the legal profession with a focus on restructuring, M&A, private equity, and activist investing in this year’s list.
Jennifer Marines is the global co-chair of Morrison Foerster’s Business Restructuring & Insolvency Group and chair of the firm’s global Finance Department. Jennifer has extensive experience representing chapter 11 debtors, creditors, investors, and other parties in interest in all aspects of complex corporate restructurings, including chapter 11 cases, out-of-court restructurings, and distressed acquisitions.
Jennifer advises senior management and boards of directors of financially troubled companies with respect to restructuring and business operations in chapter 11. She also advises official committees of unsecured creditors on complicated restructuring strategies, counsels clients on negotiating and structuring financings and other commercial transactions, and provides advice to clients seeking to purchase businesses and related assets out of chapter 11 proceedings.
Jennifer is currently acting as lead counsel to CalPlant I, LLC, a Northern California-based company focused on manufacturing sustainably sourced building products, including rice straw-based medium density fiberboard. CalPlant filed for protection under chapter 11 to pursue a comprehensive restructuring of the company’s $380 million in secured debt and to secure investment resources to complete the commissioning of the company’s manufacturing facility. She is also acting as lead counsel to the receiver of Columbia Pulp I, LLC, one of North America’s first producers of wheat straw pulp, which is used as sustainable feedstock for paper and packaging products. Columbia Pulp entered receivership upon an action of the trustee for the holders of the company’s senior secured bonds in order to pursue a restructuring of approximately $240 million in secured debt.
The Deal looks to identify outstanding women in the world of dealmaking, as well as in mentorship, who advance gender diversity and provide thought leadership. Read more about MoFo’s commitment to gender equality in law highlighted during Women’s History Month on our blog.
