Keiichi Hayashi Honored by Government of Japan
Keiichi Hayashi, senior counsel of Morrison Foerster Law Offices, has been awarded a Medal of Honor by the government of Japan at the Biannual Decoration Ceremony held in the Imperial Palace on May 10, 2022. The Medal of Honor and the Order of Culture are conferred on individuals in recognition of their distinguished service to the nation. Keiichi received the Grand Cordon, highest honor of the Order of the Rising Sun.
Keiichi Hayashi is a former Justice of the Supreme Court of Japan, where he served for almost four years. Prior to that, he was a senior diplomat with Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he worked for over 40 years.
A graduate of the Faculty of Law at Kyoto University, he joined the Ministry in 1974, serving for nearly a decade in the Ministry’s Office of Legal Advisors, which he eventually led. In addition, as a diplomat, he was assigned to several overseas postings, including as Ambassador of Japan to the United Kingdom and Ireland.
The awards are conferred by the government of Japan in the spring and autumn of each year. The order is conferred upon the recipient by His Majesty the Emperor and a certificate of order is conveyed to the recipient by the Prime Minister.
