Firms Help Small Businesses Struggling Through Pandemic
Suz Mac Cormac was featured in a Daily Journal article covering Morrison & Foerster's pro bono efforts to help some of the most vulnerable businesses stay afloat during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Shortly after the start of the pandemic, Suz co-founded the California Small Business Enterprise Task Force, a consortium of legal, financial, and nonprofit professionals helping small businesses navigate loans, aid, taxes, bankruptcy, and more, and the California Rebuilding Fund, a $1 billion private-public loan program to support the state's smallest entrepreneurs that has provided 778 loans totaling $50 million. About 100 MoFo attorneys and staff have contributed 5,350 pro bono hours to assist with both efforts.
"It's not a small initiative," Suz said. "It's a source of pride for many of us at the firm that we take on these large engagements. And people treat them the same as their billable work; you can't stand something like this up without real commitment."
