Meredith/Gray Television Deal Seen Having Low Regulatory Risk at FCC
Evan Harris spoke to CTFN about Gray Television’s proposed acquisition of Meredith Corporation’s 17 television stations, which comes shortly after the U.S. Supreme Court upheld the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) relaxed media ownership regulations.
According to Evan, “public statements by the parties suggest little overlap across their respective assets, and as a result, antitrust agencies would likely find few issues with the deal if they follow their prior antitrust analysis.” He added, “if the agencies see that other media also play a role in these markets, they may consider including those other media – although this would be relatively unusual for them.”
