California Lawyers Association Business Law Section Recognizes Paul ‘Chip’ Lion III with its 2020 Lifetime Achievement Award
The Business Law Section of the California Lawyers Association has recognized Paul ‘Chip’ Lion III with its Lifetime Achievement award for 2020. This prestigious award is annually presented to a California lawyer “who over an extended period has made significant contributions to the Section or business law generally, or both, in the State of California and who has achieved high status in the legal community.”
Since joining Morrison & Foerster over 25 years ago, Chip has proven to be a trusted advisor to his clients and a leader within the industry. As co-chair of the firm’s Private Funds Group, he advises institutional investors and fund sponsors in connection with the formation of venture capital funds, leveraged buyout funds, real estate opportunity, and other private equity funds as well as their portfolio investments. He also advises a number of large corporations on the formation and operation of their Corporate Venture Capital investment programs.
In addition to representing businesses and business leaders, Chip has served in numerous leadership positions of the Business Law Section of the American Bar Association, representing its 40,000 members on cutting-edge business issues. He served as Chair of the Section in 2014 – 2015 and held other officer positions, including Vice-Chair, when he served as editor‑in‑chief of Volume 68 of The Business Lawyer, the highly regarded journal of the Section, and Secretary of the Section (2011 – 2012), where he served as co-editor-in-chief of the Section’s online monthly magazine. He is the Past Chair of the Venture Capital & Private Equity Committee of the Section.
