Janie Schulman spoke to SHRM about the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA), under which employers may deny intermittent emergency family and medical leave for workers facing school or child care closures.
“It is important for employers to communicate why the company is unable to provide the leave,” Janie said, noting that employees may be upset if their employer denies intermittent leave even though it may have a good reason for the denial, such as financial struggles due to the pandemic.
