Alja Poler De Zwart spoke to Communications Daily for an article that covers the European Commission’s plan to require telcos to provide cell phone location data to help analyze the spread of COVID-19.
“Use of location and movement data in the EU is worrisome,” Alja said, adding that it will enable the tracking and recording of every step and “should be our last resort.” She also advised that the data must be stored safely, that there must be limited access, and that it must be deleted when no longer needed, saying that the situation now “is right out of our hands, and it all comes down to how much we trust our governments with our most sensitive information.”
