Chen is a partner whose practice focuses on government and internal investigations, cross-border enforcement matters and commercial litigation. He has extensive experience advising on U.S. economic sanctions, anti-money laundering, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), securities and accounting fraud, and related governance and corporate compliance issues. Chen also has extensive experience conducting compliance due diligence and designing compliance programs for clients in connection with private equity portfolio investments, M&A and IPO transactions. He also has experience in U.S.-based civil litigation involving Asia-based defendants. In addition, Chen frequently guides corporate and financial institutions clients through risk management issues associated with state secrecy, data privacy and cross-border data export control.His clients include major state-owned enterprises, multinational corporations and individuals from various industries including banking, pharmaceutical, technology, entertainment, insurance, consumer retail and hospitality, with a particular focus on China, Japan and Southeast Asia.Chen has been recognized as a Future Leader by Who’s Who Legal Investigations 2019 - 2022.Chen is a frequent presenter at legal conferences and client workshops relating to anti-corruption, economic sanctions and white-collar enforcement.Prior to joining Morrison Foerster, he worked in the Hong Kong and New York offices of a leading U.S. law firm. Derik’s practice primarily focuses on compliance, regulatory, sanctions, and white-collar matters, as well as investigations under the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA).He has experience advising multinational companies in financial, health care, technology, telecommunications, cryptocurrency, and various other industries. Derik represents corporate clients based in the United States, China, Japan, and Europe in various FCPA and other internal investigations, including in matters relating to commercial fraud, data privacy, embezzlement, and breach of fiduciary duties. Derik also assists banks, investment funds, and other financial institutions in managing sanctions-related risks. Additionally, Derik has advised NYSE-listed companies on their defense in securities class actions, regulatory investigations, and parallel lawsuits. Derik also defends individual clients based in Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Singapore in connection with U.S. criminal and civil lawsuits, including securities class actions, regulatory investigations, and criminal lawsuits involving wire fraud, economic espionage, and theft of intellectual property.  Prior to joining MoFo, Derik worked as an associate at a leading international law firm in California. He received his J.D. cum laude from Washington University in St. Louis. While in law school, Derik externed for a federal judge in Missouri and drafted multiple opinions.
