On Sunday, September 15, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. PT, Morrison Foerster partner Krista deBoer moderated the “Climate Change Offset Controversies” session at the 2024 Environmental Law Conference at Yosemite®.
This session focused on controversies around reliance on carbon offsets to combat climate change and offered alternative mechanisms for promoting carbon sink projects and green technologies. The panel discussed how the carbon offset industry operates, the legal frameworks that apply to voluntary and compliance programs, environmental justice concerns, and recent evidence about the underperformance of offset projects and programs.
