Enacted in 1994, the International Arbitration Act (“IAA”) marked the advent of Singapore’s aim to establish itself as a modern, arbitration‑friendly jurisdiction. Over the past 30 years, the Singapore courts have developed a steady stream of case law on the IAA’s interpretation and application. The IAA has also undergone several amendments, occasionally in response to judicial decisions. The panel will explore the legislative and judicial evolution of the IAA, as well as ongoing and contentious issues that continue to shape the landscape.
