MoFo’s Lokke Moerel and Alex van der Wolk will be joined by Jenna Fizel, Senior Director of emerging technology at IDEO, and Roger Olivieira, Co-founder of Ver.iD, for a panel session on the amplified privacy and cyber risks in the metaverse at SXSW.
The panel will focus on how privacy and cyber risks will most likely be exacerbated in the future metaverse. More of our body, behavior, and inner emotions will be digitized, which will result in a larger attack surface and deeper profiling of users. Security breaches may lead to safety risks for users, e.g., hacking of headsets can lead to physical harm and in virtual reality “groping” can feel real and traumatic. But how can we implement safety by design? Rather than having this debate after the metaverse has materialized, the panel will explore new governance options and safety-by-design solutions to ensure a safe and responsible metaverse.
