Creative Commons is organizing a two-day in-person program focused on the intersection of generative AI, cultural heritage, and contemporary creativity: an invite-only workshop on September 12, and a public symposium on September 13. The full-day symposium will be focused on the intersection of generative artificial intelligence, cultural heritage, and contemporary creativity. Creative Commons is bringing together cultural heritage experts, contemporary creators working with AI tools, and platform builders. The topics will focus on the relationship between access and reuse of cultural heritage and contemporary creativity, and an exploration of AI tools as a new means of creative expression building on the commons.
Hosted at NYU’s Engelberg Center, the symposium will feature a series of panels tackling critical questions. Partner, Justin Haan will be speaking on the panel, "Fair remuneration of creators — Can AI be an answer?" This panel will look at existing and potential remuneration models for creators in the age of AI and explore solutions for fair and equitable retribution of creators, including through the lens of distributive justice.
