Art has left its traditional place on the wall and is now carried around as a smartphone startup picture in someone’s pocket, or hung up in the metaverse in a digital living room. Auction houses proudly report record prices for NFT-based art. Artists are breaking new ground in creating works and exploiting art. Everyone’s talking about non-fungible tokens (NFTs), but not everyone knows what that really means. What opportunities are NFTs already opening up for art today? Where else can the journey into the metaverse still go? What exactly will the acquirer use the NFT for, and in what form? These are just some of the questions that Museum Barberini and Morrison Foerster would like to explore in more depth in a discussion with representatives from the fields of art, technology, and law.
After a word of welcome by Dr. Ortrud Westheider, Director of the Museum Barberini, and a short introduction to the NFT topic by Christiane Stuetzle, Certified Specialist for Copyright and Media Law, and Partner at Morrison Foerster, the following panelists from the field of art, technology, and law will speak on the panel:
Dr. Ortrud Westheider, Director Museum Barberini, Potsdam
- Prof. Dr. Christoph Meinel, President and CEO of the Hasso-Plattner-Institute for Digital Engineering (HPI), Potsdam
- Nanne Dekking, Founder & CEO of Artory, New York
- Anika Meier, NFT Expert and Curator, Hamburg
The panel discussion will be presented by Christiane Stuetzle and Patricia Ernst from Morrison Foerster's German office in Berlin.
