Kathleen Schaaf is senior of counsel in the Business Restructuring & Insolvency Group in the New York office. Kathleen’s practice is particularly focused on insurance-related insolvency and bankruptcy issues. Kathleen has represented major insurance carriers in reinsurance matters, including reinsurance counseling and arbitration, and in solvent and insolvent schemes of arrangement in the UK and in Chapter 15 proceedings in the United States. She represented a major insurer in connection with its significant ongoing reinsurance relationship with an insolvent P&C insurer, including negotiating agreements and litigating disputes in the Liquidation and other state courts. She was involved in the first U.S. statutory reinsurance commutation and has counseled clients regarding bankruptcy and other issues raised in connection with the rehabilitation of monoline insurers. Kathleen also counsels clients investing in the insurance and reinsurance claims market.

Prior to joining to Morrison & Foerster, Ms. Schaaf was senior of counsel in Lovells's New York office and a partner at Rosenman & Colin. Previously, she was a senior litigation consultant in the general counsel's office of a large property and casualty insurer and an associate with a prominent international law firm.
