Morrison & Foerster Announces 18 New Attorneys in its Northern Virginia Office, Expanding its Mid-Atlantic Presence

Latest addition is Daniel Westman, leading employment attorney to technology companies and national authority on Sarbanes-Oxley whistleblowing

 


Tysons Corner, VA, April 25, 2005Morrison & Foerster announced today that Daniel P. Westman has joined its Labor and Employment Practice as a partner in its Northern Virginia office.  Mr. Westman, who comes to the firm from Shaw Pittman, follows the addition of 17 corporate lawyers who joined the Northern Virginia office in March.  The team of new attorneys now includes seven partners, six Of Counsels and five associates, creating one of the largest full-service law offices in Northern Virginia. 

Mr. Westman’s practice focuses on labor, employment, and trade secret issues, including defending employers in Sarbanes-Oxley whistleblower, wrongful termination, sexual harassment and discrimination litigation, counseling employers regarding prevention of disputes, and litigating trade secrets and non-competition disputes.  He has tried numerous employment cases to jury verdicts in favor of companies, litigated numerous preliminary injunctions, and has handled dozens of mediations and arbitrations of employment disputes.

Mr. Westman is recognized nationally as an authoritative source on compliance matters relating to whistleblower policies, including Sarbanes-Oxley.  He is the lead author of the book Whistleblowing: The Law of Retaliatory Discharge, Second Edition (BNA Books 2004).  He has authored numerous publications, spoken at legal and industry conferences, and has testified before a Congressional subcommittee on proposed federal whistleblower legislation.

Mr. Westman represented technology companies in Palo Alto, California from 1995 through 1999, and in the Northern Virginia technology corridor from 1999 to the present.  He received his J.D. degree from the University of Chicago Law School in 1981, and his B.A. degree from Stanford University in 1978, with distinction.

Morrison & Foerster announced the addition of six corporate partners to the Northern Virginia office last month.  Those partners are Lawrence T. Yanowitch, Thomas J. Knox, Jack L. Lewis, Charles W. Katz, Gregory M. Giammittorio, and John S. Harper.
