What comes to mind when you think about doing business in China? Enormous opportunities? Tough business challenges? Most likely,
it’s a combination of these extremes, and both sides must be considered as a company plans its strategy to develop in or expand
to this market.
OCTANe@UCI brings you this panel discussion on how to do business in China. You’ll hear “big picture” strategies from the
legal and large company perspective, a VC’s perspective of China as an investment opportunity, and the operational approaches
that have helped one entrepreneur succeed in this market.
The Panelists:
- Paul Boltz, Jr., Partner, Morrison & Foerster: Based in Hong Kong, Mr. Boltz has practiced corporate and international securities law in the U.S., Hong Kong and China,
with extensive experience with venture capital transactions and private equity fund formation and investments. Further, he
has represented clients in a wide-range of merger and acquisition transactions and public and private asset-backed securitization
offerings.
- Daniel Docter, Senior Investment Manager, Intel Capital : Daniel Docter is a Senior Investment Manager with Intel Capital, which recently established a $200 million venture capital
fund to invest in Chinese technology companies. Mr. Docter covers the southern California region and also supports the worldwide
investment activities of the Intel Communications Infrastructure Group, which includes broadband access, storage/data/telecomm
networking, and material/device/component semiconductor investments.
- Jean Hu, Vice President - Strategy & Business Development, Conexant Systems, Inc: Ms. Hu is responsible for Conexant’s business and corporate development activities, strategic partnerships and M&A. In this
role, she has led the execution of M&A, divestures/spin-offs and equity investment transactions. She is currently working
on Conexant’s China strategy and leading its corporate developments efforts in China.
- Hsiao-Lai “Sean” Mei, President and CEO, Screampoint LLC: Hsiao-Lai Mei’s professional background has centered on the integration of architectural practice, communication, and information
technology. Presently, he is President and CEO of Screampoint LLC, a Northern California VC-backed company that does innovative
3d content, communications, and multimedia for real estate projects worldwide.
