Peter W. Hanschen has been in the forefront of energy regulatory matters for the last quarter century. He has participated in numerous regulatory proceedings before California and federal regulatory commissions, representing utilities, independent energy companies and customers. He also has been active in gas and electric market re-structuring, as well as recent movements to increased use of renewable energy resources and reduced greenhouse gas emissions. Mr. Hanschen is listed as a leading California Energy and Natural Resources lawyer by Chambers USA. He has also been listed in The Best Lawyers in America directory for more than a decade, and is once again listed in 2007, as a leader in the field of Energy law
Mr. Hanschen represents energy companies in arbitrations and has acted as a neutral arbitrator.
Mr. Hanschen represents clients in energy transactions, including drafting power purchase agreements, fuel supply agreements and other energy related contracts. He has participated in the development and financing of all types of energy projects, both domestically and internationally. He works as part of Morrison & Foerster's project finance team which represents developers, lenders, bi-lateral and multi-lateral international lending agencies, as well as other entities such as equipment suppliers and construction contractors, in such projects. Mr. Hanschen provides years of experience in issues regarding the development of energy infrastructure and the regulation of energy utilities.
Mr. Hanschen is co-chair of Morrison & Foerster's Energy Practice Group.
Representative Matters
- Assisted the Governor's office in efforts to resolve the financial crisis that the California investor-owned electric utilities were experiencing.
- Represented developers of interstate and intrastate natural gas pipelines, oil pipelines and terminals and LNG facilities.
- Represented developers of electric generating plants domestically and in Asia.
- Represented electric utility in unique market-based settlement of multi-billion nuclear power plant.
- Argued ratemaking cases before the California Supreme Court.
