Edward Froelich is Of Counsel in the Tax Department of Morrison & Foerster’s Washington D.C. office. Mr. Froelich received his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1994, where he was Notes Editor of Journal of Law & Politics. He subsequently received his Master’s in Taxation from Georgetown University Law Center in 1999.

Mr. Froelich is a graduate of Thomas Aquinas College where he received his B.A degree in Liberal Arts in 1988. Prior to coming to Morrison & Foerster, Mr. Froelich served as a trial attorney in the U.S. Department of Justice, Tax Division and practiced as a tax controversy associate in another Washington, D.C. firm.

His more recent significant controversy matters involve issues in the following areas:

  • Income tax accounting
  • International tax
  • Listed transactions
  • Stock option employment taxes
  • Penalties
  • Disclosure litigation

Mr. Froelich is the co-author of BNA Accounting Policy & Practice Portfolio, No. 5511, and The Section 7525 Tax Practitioner-Taxpayer Privilege and Related Issues. He also devotes substantial time to following developments in privilege and work product issues as they affect tax controversies. He has participated as a panelist in FBA, TEI, ABA section meetings, and internal client programs on topics such as privilege, work product, FIN 48, and low-income taxpayer litigation issues.

Mr. Froelich is admitted to practice in Maryland and the District of Columbia.
