Joyita Basu is an associate in the Washington, D.C., office of Morrison & Foerster LLP where she is a member of the Financial Services practice group.

Ms. Basu’s practice focuses on a broad range of matters involving regulatory and legislative issues for financial institutions, including financial products and services under the National Bank Act and electronic banking and payment system issues under the Electronic Fund Transfer Act. Ms. Basu’s practice also includes matters related to privacy and data security under the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, the Fair Credit Reporting Act, the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act, and state privacy and data security laws.

Ms. Basu received her baccalaureate degree in commerce, with honors, from Jamia Millia University, New Delhi, India in 1992, her Master of Accounting from North Carolina State University in 1998, and her J.D. from the University of North Carolina, School of Law, with honors, in 2004. She was the Managing Editor of the North Carolina Banking Institute Journal and was elected to the Order of the Coif.
